Seems to have gone by Howard. Howard always appears first even though it was originally Henry Howard. 1870 - he was a hireling with his brother at Soloman Maul's next door to his family. Lived in Reading during the 1880 census.. I have photographed the headstone. Headstone said 60 - 4 - 0 Was working a hireling at Soloman Maul's during the 1870 census. I have his record in the 1900 and 1910 census. Obituary in the Adams County New (Gettsyburg, PA) Feb 13 1915. "Howard H. Graff, died on Friday in York aged 60 years. He is survived by his wife, and one daughter, C. Grace Graff, and C.P. Graff, living at home, and H. B. Graff, of Wheeling, W.VA., and tow brothers, Uriah Graff, West York, and Pierce Graff, of Abbottstown. Funeral Monday morning, leaving his late home at 8 o'clock.. Services and interment at the Lutheran Church, Abbottstown." New Oxford Item: 11 Feb 1915- Howard H. Graff died at his home in York @ 3:45 o'clock on Friday morning, aged 60 yeats and 4 months. Mr. Graff's death was due to apoplexy with which he was seized on Sunday morning previous and never regained consciousness, Deceased was born and reared near Abbottstown, but has been living in York for some years. His wife, who was a Miss Patterson, of Hamilton Township, died some years ago. Surviving are two sons and one daughter, Miss Grace Graff and C.P. Graff, at home, and H. B. Graff, of Wheeling, W.Va. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Susan Graff, now in her 87th year, residing in York; two brothers, Pierce Graff, of Abbottstown; Uriah Graff, of York, and six sisters,, Mrs. Albert Sunday, of Farmers, York county; Mrs. A.M. Saurbeer, Parsons, KA; Mrs. W.E. Maul, Carlin, NV; Mrs. Jonas Rebert, Hanover; Mrs. W.F. Sheely, of this place, and Miss Lillie Graff, who kept house for the deceased. The funeral took place on Monday morning, services being held at the Lutheran Church at Abbottstown, and interment made in the Abbottstown cemetery, the Rev. F.C. Sternat officiating. Name could have been or went by Mollie. I have photographed the headstone. Headstone stated 42-4- 12. The last name came from Howard's obit. 1900 Census. 1910 census was with his father and siblings in York 9th Ward, he was a finisher in a furniture factory. 13 Feb 1915 - In his father's obit of , he was in Wheeling, W. VA. Listed as H.B. I think that he may have been known as Harold later on. Harold lived in Martinsburg, W.VA in 1951. (This was probably Herald) This is the Harry Bernard that was born Jul 5 1883 . He was born in Adams County, PA. 1930 - he was in Baltimore with his wife Elizabeth. They were either living with or next door to Henry and Mary Goldstraw - who Harry listed in 1942 as the person who would always know where he was. Not sure if this is the right person. He was a welder in a shipyard. They were married at 19 and 17. Monastery Ave. Baltimore MD. Born in Adams County, PA. The person who would know where he was: H. Goldstraw, @ the same address. He worked at the Maryland Dry Dock in Fairfield, MD. He was 5'7", 130 lbs. Blue eyes, light complexion, and gray hair. He was lame in his L Leg. Henry Goldshaw was his son-in-law, which would make Mary I. Goldstraw his daughter.
Living single with his sister and an aunt named Otilla (72 years old) during the 1920 census. Aunt Lillie aged 88 was living with them in 1930. Listed in 1900 census with his father as P. Chauncey. Was with his father in 1910 in 9th ward York. 1910 census he was a telegraphers at a Broker's office. 1915 in his father's obit, he was living at home. Will 24 May 1924, left everything to C. Grace. The Probate stated that he was not married and had no children.
Went by Grace most of the time. Single and living with Chauncey and an aunt during the 1930 census in York, PA. 1910 she was a stenographer in a Broker's office, living with her father and siblings. 1915 was single. (Father's obit). She was living at home. 1938 - went on a cruise through the canal Lived at 846 Wayne Ave. York. 1951 - she was executrix of Ida Sheeley's estate. Still single. 1960 - she was elected treasurer of the Wihler family reunion....... She was living in York. Had died by 24 Aug 1961.
He married Mary A. Patterson 13 Oct 1878 at of Pennsylvania . Mary A. Patterson was born at Mount Joy, Lancaster, Pennsylvania 1856 daughter of James M . Patterson and Mary e . Patterson .
