Jun 20 1914 - Adams County News
ABBOTTSTOWN BOY HAS HEAD CRUSHED:
12 year old son of Michael Resh in Critical condition. Wagon containing a load of hay runs over him.
The wheel of a wagon loaded with a ton and a half of hay passed over the head of William Resh, the twelve year old son of Michael Resh, of near Abbottstown, who had fallen a distance of ten feet from the top of the load.
He sustained a fracture of the jaw, concussion of the brain and his left ear was nearly torn from his head. That he escaped instant death was due to the fact that at the place where the accident occurred the ground was soft.
The accident occurred Thursday afternoon on the farm of John Brown. The boy slipped on the hay and fell directly back of the horses hoofs. The wheel pushed the boy's head before it for severeal feet before passing over it. For a half hour after the accident the lad was unconscious.
He was carried to the Brown home, where Dr. Wilson F. Hollinger, of Abbottstown, attended him. His condition is critical. The Resh boy makes his home with his grandfather, Pierce Graff, where he was taken last night.
He was reportedly well known in New Oxford where he made frequent visits to aunt, Mrs. Wm F. Sheely, Lincoln Way, West.

New Oxford Item: 18 Dec 1919 - William Resh, of the U.S. navy, is visiting his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Pierce Graff, near Abbottstowm. Mr. Resh served for more than two years in the army and saw service in Panama and at various camps in this country. Several months ago he was honorably discharged from the arumy and he immediately joined the navy and was assigned to the S.S. "Oklahoma", now lying at Portsmouth. Young Resh, who enlisted at the age of 14, is a newphew of Mrs. Wm. F. Sheely, New oxford, and was a recent visitor here.

??? Mr. and Mrs. Albert Smith, Berlin Street, and Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Ling, Hollywood Ave, visited Mr. and Mrs. William Resh, York. ??? I doubt that this is ours. This was William A. Resh, his wife was RIta S. Glass, daughter of Joseph J. and Gabriel L. Fleishman Glass, late of near New Oxford. They had no children.

Little Girl Burned to Death
Little Edith may Resh, 5 1/2 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael REsh, was fatally burned at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Pierce Graff, 1 1/2 miles east of Abbottstown, on Saturday afternoon about 3'oclock and died in the York hospital on Sunday morning at 7 o'clock, to which institution she was rushed by Dr. T.C. Miller, of Abbottstown, who had responded propmptly, with a trained nurse, following a hurried phone call, and administered preliminary treatment.
The child's grandmotehr was doing the family ironing, and the little tot was trying to help her. In the course of the work, little Edith said she had to go upstairs for a handkerchief, and after she was gone a little while, her grandfather, who was then in the house, thought he heard a noise in the room above, and upon going to the stair door, he discovered that there was a fire upstairs. The man rushed upstairs and found the littel one with her clothes in flames. He and his wife, who followed after him, smothered the flames as soon as they could with a comfort, but the fire had made too much headway before they arrived and death ensued. Mr. and Mrs. Graff were badly burned in their effort to extinguish the flames.
Hardly a part of the little girl's body had been untouched by fire, her burns above the knees being especially severe, and all her hair was burned from her head. She was still conscious, but shortly afterward became dilirious and remained in that state until death came. No explanation could be obtained from the child as what had happened in the room.
It seems that after the tot got upstairs, she found the matches and lighted a lamp, as the lamp was found lit and the chimney on. It is supposed that she did nto extinguish the match until she had the chimney on and then her clothing had already taken fire. She was a very bright little child and was much loved by her grandparents with whom she made her home. Little Edith is survived by her parents, 3 brothers, WIlliam, Richard amd Paul and one sister, Jennie. The father's whereabouts are unknown. The mother is employed at the American house in York.
