George S. STEUART

                   Listed on the back of the obelisk of Captain Thomas Harris. Lived at Doyle's Mill after his father's death. Was a Presbyterian. Died of Typhoid.

Originally buried in Western Cemetery, she was reinterred to Cave Hill Cemetery, in the lot belonging to her son-in-law, John W. Anderson. Said to belong to the Seceder (Associate Prebyterian Church).
                  

                   Learned the tanning trade on the eastern side of the Tuscarora Valley. Later moved to Alexandria, PA. in 1802. Lived at Harris Mills (now Doyle's Mills) in Juniata County. He was willed Harris mills, later selling it to the Doyle's. They moved to Alexandria, PA.
Politically: Jeffersonian Democrat.
Religion: Presbyterian.
The death date on the headstone is erroneous.
                  

                   Deer Creek became Churchville, MD. Probably received his name from his uncle Dr. Robert Harris, of Philadelphia. He is mentioned as "Bobbie".
Moved to Tuscarora Valley in 1775, and lived there, Harris Mills (now Doyle's Mills) until he reached adulthood. Sold his share of the paternal farm in 1790.
In 1797 he moved West, first to Nine Mile Run, Allegheny Co, PA (probably with his youngest sister Sutia and her husband), then onto Butler Co, PA., where in 1803, a Robert Stewart was taxed for 170 acres in Middlesex Township, Butler, PA.
Between 1810 and 1812, he moved to Meyers' Run (or Turtle Creek), Allegheny, PA (about 12 miles out of Pittsburg), the family remained for only a short time before finally moving to Allegheny Township (afterwards City) on the northern side of the Allegheny river, opposite Pitturgh.
29 Sep 1814, he bought a lot on the NW corner of Federal and Diamond streets. Was the oldest brick building in town.
Religion: Presbyterian.
Profession: blacksmith, cutler, and sickle maker. Probably learned his trade at Mifflintown. For some years he kept a hotel, and also ran the ferry between Allegheny and Pittsburg. The tavern was located a short distance above Federal St. on the banks of the river.
Died at his nephew John Harris Stewart's home. Licking Creek is near Mifflintown.


Carson family tree had birthdate of 1774 in East Donegal, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, United Strates, he died 1835 in PA.
                  

                   Unmarried. She moved to what Doyle's Mill, Juniata, PA in 1775, and remained there until her death. She sold her share of the family estate to her brother John on 16 Feb 1796, for 150 pounds.
Her home was with her mother and her brother John at the old homestead. Died of Typhoid. Was reportedly engaged when she died. Died 8 days after her brother John, who also died of Typhoid.
                  

                   Tombstone says 1790. Book says died between 13 Aug 1787 and 2 Oct 1790. IGI says abt 1787. IGI has Stewart.
                  

                   The birth date in her father's family records in illegible. It was changed at least once. The original may have been 1778, or 1776. It was changed to 1777. Thomas Harris's copy says 1776, John Harris Stewart ( a most careful genealogist) has 1777 and this is used.
Appearance: medium height and weight.
Religion: Presbyterian, at her death belonged to the First Church, Allegheny.
Lived at Doyle's Mill with her family before her marriage.
Saw George Washingtin at Shippensburg in 1794 when he was on his way to the western part of PA to suppress the Whiskey Insurrection. This must have been Oct. 11, 1794, when General Washington dined at the Branch Hotel in a place which was then owned by Capt. William Rippey, an uncle of the man she afterwards married. Died at her nephew's (John Harris Stewart) home.
Buried besides her husband. Her tombstone had "Our mother - Satiah Murry- Died Sep. 2, 1857, in the 80th year of her age. This mortal must put on immortality."
She outlived all of her brothers and sisters, the last whom died 21 years before. She outlived all of her children, most of who died of consumption.
Named after her aunt Sutia (Stuart) Harris.
Portraits of her were owned by the children of the late Mrs. Mary Linn Shaiffer, of Alhambra, CA. Her family bible was in the hands of Seth F. Stewart, of Redlands, CA.
