Guilliaume or William DE VIGNE
Jean or Jan Vigne or Guillamme Vigne migrated to New Amsterdam as early as 1614. He was a Frenchman, a Hugenot from Valenciennes, Department du Nord, France. (A Walloon pioneer). He was probably a Protestant. The date of his death is unknown. (See Colonel George Stewart and Margaret Harris, their ancestors and Descendents by Robert Stewart D.D.L.L.D) A New York Times article stated that Jean owned the first Brewery in New York, located on Vine (Vigne) Street, New York. I don't know whether this was this Jean or his child. "Vigne" (French) spelled phonetically in Dutch becomes Vinje, Vinge, Vienge, Finge, and sometimes Van Gee. "Jean" (French) becomes Jan in Dutch records. The pioneer Vigne's name was not "Jean" but Guillaume (French), Willem (often in the mouth of his neighbors) and Gulyne (in Dutch records). IGI also has Geleyn. IGI pedigree has 1586 birthdate in St. Vaast La Haute, FRA.
Could also be Cevelyn, Cevelin, Cuville, in French, but was often written Cuvilje, Cuvillie, or Cuvilier, Cuvellier (IGI) in the records. Her Christian name was Adrienne (French) or Adriana, Adrianentje, Ariaentje (in Dutch) I also have a birthplace of France. She died in what preceded New York, N.Y. It was called New Amsterdam, and was a Dutch Colony. IGI pedigree has her born in Valenciennes, FRA abt 1589/90.
The first name is also mentioned as Marie. There were children of the first marriage. IGI pedigree also has possible birthplaces as New Amsterdam, NY, Holland.
Could also be Vigne. Appears to have been childless. Jean Vigne was the first white child born in the Dutch Colony of New Amsterdam, on Manhatton Island. The Steuart book states that he was certainly the first white child born North of the Virginia settlement in the original 13 states. This was later taken over by the British, and renamed New York. He was a brewer and a farmer, and occupied the old homestead. Jean also owned the first brewery, located on Vine (Vigne) Street, New York. Above taken from the New York Times.
Died before her brother.
