There seem to have been two Gideon Briggses in the Revolutionary War. Our Gideon, of Berkley, served in the militia; the other Gideon, from Taunton, was regularly enlisted.

The first Revolutionary Gideon Briggs listed was born in 1845 was the son of David Briggs and Sarah Marcy Babbitt of Berkley. He was married to Keturah Allen in Taunton and died in Berkley.

The second, born in 1850, was probably the son of James Briggs and Dameris White of Norton.
