Thomas YORKE
From England. His coming to America is said to have been accidental; in 1728, he was with several companions having boarded a vessel, and it sailed before they were aware of it. His brother and sister are from tradition. Settled in Pottstown, where he became a partner in the iron works with John Potts (half brother to Martha) who was founder of the place. He was Justice of the Peace in Philadelphia in 1745. He was Lt. Col in 1748, of the Associated Regt. of Philadelphia County (raised at the time of the French and Indian War). Martha's uncle, Jacob Leech, was Capt. of this regiment at that time. He represented Berk's County in the Provincial Assembly in 1757. The following inscription is on his timbstone. "In memory of THOMAS YORKE,Esq. Who departed This life June The 23rd, 1764 aged 56 years." Buried in the same plot with him are his 1st 2 wives (supposedly) Martha and Margaret, and the parents of his third wife (Mary), David and Elinor Robeson. Pedigree from Family Search has his burial at Evansburg, Butler, PA.
Died of yellow fever (along with daughter Mary) at the old homestead at Hancock's Bridge. they had gone there to escape the fever, which was raging in Philadelphia, where they resided. They were buried in Salem N.J. There is nothing there to mark their graves.
Unmarried. Was a physician, reportedly studied medicine with the famous Dr. Rush of Philadelphia.

He married Mary Robeson Abt 1744 . Mary Robeson was born at PA 1722 daughter of David Robeson and Elinor Lane .
