                   The same book has 2 different birthdates, 1) Dec 20 and 2) Sep 20, of the same year. Edward went to sea at an early age, and was Capt. of a merchant vessel, before the Revolution. In the commencement of the war he was captured  in the first armed vessel, it is thought to jave been the "Delaware" and that he was in command. Edward was possessed of an ample fortune, which was lost consequent on the depreciation of currency and other causes incident to war. While Edward was away in the war, the British took possession of the home on Arch St. and most of the contents were destroyed.
