Peter ROBESON
Elizabeth was a woman of strong character and great ability. She was a women of great piety and endowed with a cheerful and happy disposition, never allowing herself to worry over small matters and cares of life. Somewhere someone had this is Elizabeth Ford. (Internet) 1758-1794).
Widowed at 18. She died from grief, over the death of 4 little grandchildren, who all died within a week. She died a week or 2 after that. She died at her niece's (Mrs. Elizabeth A. McKenzie) home. I also have the death date as nov 10, 1836.
Appointed Major in 4th Regt.N.C. riflemen,Sept 4th, 1814, by then Sec, of War, James Monroe (later President). He served in the French and Indian War- in which he was injured. I also have a death date of 1843 (Kings Meadow).
I also have 1784 as a birth year. I also have 23 Nov 1785. He and his brother Thomas J. had a general merchandise store in Fayetteville N.C. After his marriage to Mary, he moved to Chesterfield and opened a store there on land his mother-in-law gave him. This was the first store at that place. Peter was a member of the Legislature of South Carolina. HIs tombstone reads: "He was brave,impulsive, generous,social,hospitable with prodogallity; an indulgent parent, affectionate husband, a zealous partizan, and a strictly honest man."
He resided in New Orleans where he established a Commission business, which he carried on until his death. Associated with his father in law during his military career.
He married Elizabeth Lord Abt 1775 . Elizabeth Lord was born at American Colony, North Carolina 1758 .
