(David) Morris ROBESON
Was evidently named for his great grandfather, David Morris, but dropped the "David" when he was grown. He was raised in Philadelphia by relatives after his parents died. He returned to their farm at the lower end of Green Pond, near Oxford Furnace N.J. in 1781, but returned to Philadelphia where he became a partner in the firm of "Paul Brothers" the firm being thereafter "Paul, Robeson,Paul." In 1809, Morris purchased the old Robeson property, at Oxford furnace N.J.(This was the property of Jonathan Robeson, grandfather of Morris). The Weymouth Furnace was built by the firm of "Paul,Robeson,Paul" and others. THe first iron water pipes where were laid in Philadelphia were made at this furnace. They also built a large dam across the Great Egg Harbor River in 1801, for the purposes of the furnace. Being born at Forest of Deane N.Y. where there was no Society of Friends, Morris Robeson's birth was not recorded, appears to have been overlooked when the family returned to N.J. Though he as well as the congregation to which his family belonged, considered him a member, when he asked permission to the Society to marry, his birth not being found on the records, permission was refused, unless he joined the society as a "new member", which he would not do as he considered himself a member by "birthright".Tacy would lose her birthright if she married him without permission of the Society. They explained the circumstances of how his birth had been overlooked and permission was granted, but the marriage was not in the meeting as was customary for members; Tacy retained her birthright, the family known as friends and the children brought up in the faith but could not be birth-right members as their father never would consent to join as a new member. Only one child joined the Society.
She was a women of strong character, and very active. She was for many years, an Elder among "Friends" and always wore the Quaker habiliments. Through her mother she was descended through the "Livezey" and "Kenton" families.
