The McGregor family (formerly "MacGruder") came originally from Greece, being a wealthy colony which later settled in Scotland. They were called by the Scots "Mac-Grek-or" "the golden Greeks." The first of the family who settled in America, was Alexander MacGregor Jr. (son of Alexander MacGregor and Lady Margaret Drummond). He came to America in 1653. Alaric was one of his descendents. The "Drummond" plaid is black and red in broken lines, and the badge is wild thyme.
