Later from 1851-1866 the records show Owen Stringham selling lots of Gore land to Horace and Peter Lossing and I.J. Merrill. They also show where Owen gave a parcel of land at the north end of the Gore to the clergy for $1.00. Upon this a church and school were erected - now the Gore United Church dated 1861. Sarah was born on the Stringham farm in the Gore east of Norwich on Dec 30, 1826-from the records acquired by Ralph Warden. This would have been in a Quaker Settlement. The Quakers moved to Canada from Pennsylvania to avoid persecution during the revolutionary war in US. Her granddaughter Hughena Brayley descibed the enormous work they did in order to support their family of 12 children. They mostly milked cows and made the milk into cheese for six months and the remaining months butter was traded for goods. Sarah dried apples and made clothing for her family of twelve from the whole wool that was taken to the weaver to be made into cloth. Her last child, Alice E. was born when she was in her mid forties. It was said that she was loving and kind to her family.
