John BUTLER
John Butler and his wife Elizabeth Archer heard the gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ at St Albany and were subsequently baptized. They left England and crossed the Atlantic in the sailing vessel -International.. The ship set sail in February and they arrived in Salt Lake on October 5 or 6th. The family Elizabeth Archer, Argent, John, Sarah, Henry, David and Ann were in the group. They had traveled across the plains by ox team with the Jacob Gates' Company. They settled at Spring Lake Ville, three miles south of Payson, where they took up a homestead. The group included John Butler, his wife, Argent, Sarah, Henry and our ancestor John Ockford Butler came with them. (Aunt Francis in historical comments mentions that he was alcoholic and his family suffered because of it.)
He married Sarah Roberts 30 Apr 1807 at Redbourn, Hertford, England . Sarah Roberts was christened at Redbourn, Hertford, England 6 Feb 1785 daughter of Joseph Roberts and Judith Axtell .
