Elisha NEVERS

Elisha and Bathsheba never lived in Leicester, Massachusetts. He served in the British expedition againsst the French at Fortress Louisbourg in Cape Breton in 1745/46 and was an Innholder in Boston in 1749. They with their sons Phineas, Samuel and Jabez removed to the Township of Maugerville on the Saint John Rivers in Sunbury County, New Brunswick, about 1765. Elisha was granted Lot 20 on Oromocto Island in the Saint John River opposite Maugerville, 31 October 1765. His son Dr Phineas Nevers refused to take the oath of allegiance to Britain during the Revolutionary War. He fled the country and spent the rest of his life in Bangor, Maine Elisha eventually returned to the States and was buried in the Baptist cemetery in Greenville, Leicester Massachusetts. Son Eisha was still a minor when his father died. The Probate Court records for Middlesex County, Massachusetts show that "Guardianship to Elisha Nevers son of the late Richard Nevers, late of Woburn in the County of Middlesex, deed, a minor in his sixteenth years of his age, at his own nomination is committed to Captain Ebenezer Hogg of the same place and bond is taken for his faithful discharge of this trust in 100 pounds, at Cambridge, 8th April 1717..... This paper is important because there was some thought that Elisha may have been a grandson to Richard.

Samuel and Anna Neves came to Saint John River from New Engladn about 1765. Athey settled in that part of Maugerville Township which became the Parish of Shefield, in Sunbury County. He left a will 30 July 1808 whch was proved by William Hubbard, Surrogate for Sunbury County, New Brunswick.
He married Bathsheba Green Abt 1725 at Leicester, Worcester, Massachusetts . Bathsheba Green was born at Malden Middlesex, Massachusetts Abt 1703 daughter of Samuel Green and Elizabeth Upham .
