                   Our Peter Tringham finding himself without parents joined a Quaker Friends Group

by may of 1677 he was with a goup of 23 0 Quaker folk on the sailing ship Kent heading for a new life in America. On June 16th, 1677this sailing ship Kent headed up the Delawarepast what is now the City of Philadelphia and landed at a small dock at the mouth of Rancocas Creek, now named Delanco, New Jersey. As Peter walekddown te ships gang plank and onto American soil. The recorder asked for his name. He replied, " It's Tringham." The recorder misumderstood and wrote Stringham. And so the name has been written for over 300 years. Peter walked five miles and found employment at the Halstead shop where they made rope. Halstead died a year later and Peter married his wife Susannah Harcutt Halstead about 1679. She died in 1682 . Peter moved out to Long Island, first to the village of Jamaica and later to the Hempstead area whch was setttled by the British in 1655. Here he met and later married the daughter of a prominent Welsh family. Her name was Anna Owen. They raised a family of 12 children.
