I also have a birthplace of Berwick Township, Adams, PA. I also have a marriage place as York, PA. I used Abbottstown, because Uncle Lew had this.He appeared to have the more accurate information. I also have a referral to 2 "other" children who may have died young. I only have one reference to these. This would conform to the one census that they had 1 children, but maybe that is where someone else got it? I have seen his headstone. Buried with his wife, Mary Hydeman, Marie and Elsie. On 1850 Census.York Historical Society. 1880 Census was living in Paradise, York, PA. I saw the baptism record from the St. John's Church records. 1890 - 16 May New Oxford Item: On Friday Sheriff Taughinbaugh sold the properties of Tempest W. Graff, in Reading and Ltimore townships to W.W. Hafer at $3100; Np. 1 at $2000, No. 2 st $500, No. 3 at $500 and No. 4 at $100. 1890 - June 20 New Oxford Item: Petition to set aside sale of the real estate of Tempest and Elizabeth Graff, sold by the sheriff, was filed and rule granted. 24 July 1909 - Adams County News: Executors Sale of valuable Real Estate: On Saturday, August 14th, 1909, the undersigned Executors of the last will of W.W. Hafer, deceased, late of BerwickBorough, Adams COunty, PA., will offer at public sale on the premises the following described real estate: A tract of land known as the "Tempest Graff Farm," on which Tetrach Griest now lives, situated in Latimore and Reading Townships, Adams COunty, PA., on the roadleading from the Red Mount Church to the Bermudian Churches adjoining lands of John Resser, Mrs. Annie Myres, Wm, Lees, George Nell and others, about one mile from Bragtown, containing 128 acres and 150 perches more or less. I saw her headstone and checked information. She was called Eliza in the 1850 census. Lizzie most of the time. 1900 census had the family in Reading. It said she had 16 children, 10 of which were alive. Hummm. 1910 - it said she had 14 children, 10 who were alive. She was living with Henryand the 2 girls. They were in Reading. She is listed as Lizzie in the 1910 miracode census, where she is listed with Henry, her son. 1920 - she is living in York with her daughter Marie E., granddaughter Mary J (15 years), and Grandson Albert W. Forry (13 years). I have a grant deed that positively connects Elizabeth wife of Tempest W. Graff,as the daughter of Michael Leib. 1878.
We assume that he died at his home, in Abbottstown, Adams County, PA. I also have a reference to Alfred as his first name. His baptismal record says Alfred L. I have a birthdate of 23 June 1868, I took the one from the baptismal record. Source 12587,York genealogical society. I have a death record from the York Historical Society with the burial place, death date of 18 Feb 1880, aged 11 - 7- 25. They had his name as Amos L. I photographed the headstone. It says Amos L, son of T.W. and Elizabeth Graff, died Feb 18, 1880, aged 11 years 7 months, & 25 days. There is a U.S. Federal census Mortality Schedules Index on Amos Graff, died 1880 in York County, PA age 11, Died in Jan. He was listed as a farm Laborer, causeof death was Scarlet Fever. I have a date of 23 Jun 1868, I don't know if its a birthdate or death date. I don't know exactly where this person fits.
Mary Catharine and her husband John F. Sprenkel are 5th cousins, related throughthe Eysters. Mary died at York Hospital, York, PA. This marriage date came Church of the Brethern recors, their son, Charles had Feb 22, ; Horace had 24 Feb 1892. 1910 - she had 5 children, all alive in 1910. They had been married for 18 years. 1941 - living in Jenkintown.
I saw the headstone. I also have a death date from Ken of 30 Aug 1936. I also have a marriage date of1900. I have a note of Lutheran, St. John, Allentown- I don't know what this means.
I got the dates from the headstone. WW I draft information states he was born on 28 Dec 1872. 1900 Census said he was a boilermaker. 1930 - He was living in York.
I also have 26 Jul birthdate. Apparently called "Al". Called Albert in his sister Sara's obit. Pennsylvania 1910 Miracode Index: Mother Lizzie was living with him. His daughters Esther and Mary J were also there. 1920 living in Reading. No children with him. 1930 he was living with Sarah in Springs, Berks, Pennsylvania, USA. He was listed as a "Baker" . 1941 - he was living in Reading. Sept 1918. I had a marriage date of 1890, however, Sylvia got the one I used from a list ofmarriages of the area. She was probably called Jane. She was listed as Jane on the headstone of her daughter Mary E. She signed her name as Sarah J. Graff in 1889 as a witness for her grandmother'srenunciation. Was called Jennie in the 1900 census. George O. was with them. 1900 had 4 children, 3 were living, but only George O was listed with them. Thatdoesn't make sense because I know of 3 who had already died. 1920 was married to Calvin and living in Exeter, Berks, PA. None of her kids were with her. 1930 she was married to Calvin and living in Exeter, PA. She was listed as SarahJ. Gettysburg Compiler 8 Feb 1941: Mrs. Calvin K. Hertzog Mrs. Sara Jane Graff Hertzog, wife of Calvin K. Hertzog, and a former resident of near Abbottstown, died at her home in St. Lawrence, near Reading,, Saturday morning at 2 o'clock. She was aged 64 years and had been ill for some time. Mrs. Hertzog was married twice. Her first marriage was William K. Forry, near Abbottstown. SHe had a number of relatives in teh vicinity of Hanover. Mrs. Hertzog, who was a daughter of the late Tempest A. and Elizabeth (Leib) Graff, is survived by her husband, two sons by the first marriage, George Forry, athome, and Albert Forry, Lancaster; a stepson, Jacob Hertzog. West Lawn; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Henry Faber, Mrs. Paul Lo-b, and Mrs. Raymond DuGuay, all of Reading; five grandchildren, four great -grandchildren; three brothers - Albert Graff, Reading, Louis, York, and Lee, California, and a sister, Mrs. Mary Sprenkle, Jenkintown. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Lutz funeral home, Reading. Interment at the Lutheran Cemetery in Abbottstown.
Archives at York County Historical Society state that his birthdate was 23 Aug 1878, died at 0 - 3- 25. I saw and photographed his headstone. It says Joseph C. , son of T.W. and Elizabeth Graff, died Aug 23, 1878, 3 months, & 25 days.
I have Elizabeth, N.J., but I don't know if this is her death place, its in the Christening place box, but that doesn't make much sense. (Some of Ken's info). I saw the headstone at the cemetery. She is buried with Tempest, Elizabeth, Marie, and Mary. She was single in 1930 according to the affidavid of Paul K. Graff, regarding the estate of Marie Graff. According to the affadavid, she was living in ElizabethN.J. She was visiting with Otto (where Marie was). Reportedly Marie had a stroke and Elsie stayed with her.
We think that he died either in York, or Lancaster County, PA. Address: 611 W. Princess St, York, PA. Information that he gave was from a Family Record. He is buried with Katie.
1910 - living in York. 1920 living in Reading with Bertie's parents. He was a clerk in an iron foundry. 1930 - living at 734 Barr St., Reading. I also have a death date of 18 Apr 1933. Laureldale Cemetery is at 4631 Pottsville Pike (also Highway 61), Reading, PA. 921-2331.
I photographed the headstone. It says Cora ???A.T. daughter of T.W. and Lizzie Graff, died Sep 26, 1884, aged 3 months, & 3 days. The cemetery book states that it says: Cora A. & I. daughter of T.W. & Lizzie; Sep 26, 1884. 0 - 3- 13.
She was not married, she had no children. She was single in 1920 census. She had a stroke at Otto's home on Jun 30, 1930. L side paralyzed. She stayed there for a few weeks and then went back to Baltimore. She left a long will whichI have in my possession. There is a very long affadavit regarding her estate that tells about her stroke,and has alot of family member names, etc. in it. Dated Fri Jul 15, 1932. Didn'tseem like a warm and fuzzy family She is buried with Tempest, Elsie and Elizabeth. And Mary Hydeman.
Burial records from York Historical Society give the death date, burial place, and age 1 - 10 - 8. I have another note (unknown) that says that he died at the age of 2 years, 2 months, 2 weeks, 2 days. 3 Sep 1891 death date I don't know where I got this - but after seeing the headstone and the cemetery records, it appears wrong.. I photographed the headstone. It says John T, son of T.W. and Lizzie Graff, diedMarch 18, 1889, (I think that it says that) aged 1 year, 10 months and 8 days. The cemetery log says he was 1 -10 - 8.
His WW I registration had his birthdate as 1887, and his birthplace as Latimore Township.
