Came to America in 1760, and came to Chester County in 1760, to Franklin County in 1785, to Huntingdon (now Blair) County in 1793. He was a farmer. Private 7th Class, 2nd Company, 1st Battalion, Chester Co. PA Militia, Captain Ephreim Allen's Company. Records Vol V p 304 PA Archives Series 5 Vol 5. Will Book 2 page 342 Records of Huntingdon Co, PA. Will Book 2 Records of Blair Co, PA. Africa's History of Huntingdon and Blair County PA (1883) says (pg 85): "About the middle of the eighteenth century, James Irwin, a hardy and ambitious young son of Ireland, left his native land for America. Chester County, in PA, soon became his adopted home, and farming his occupation. He married a member of the well and widely known Carson family of Chester County, and in due time rose to notice as a thrifty and prosperous tiller of the soil. In 1793 he moved to what is now Blair County and settled in Frankstown Township. There he lived and farmed until his death, leaving the farm to his son Robert (born in Chester Countyin 1776) who died on the homestead in 1849. Robert was the father of seven daughters and four sons, all of whom grew to be men and women." Will dated Sept 16, 1814; probated February 26, 1822. Names wife Molly; sons Robert and James, daughter Jane, married to James Irwin; grandsons Thomas and James Mahood, sonsof George Mahood who was formerly intermarried with daughter Elizabeth. Executors: Robert Irwin and James Irwin. Witnesses: James McCune and Joseph Patton. Page 342. I have seen and photographed the headstone. There is a revolutionary plaque, in the wrong place, which has death as 1822. Well and widely known family of Chester County. May have also been called Molly.Death date could be 1822, I couldn't read it exactly, but she was alive when James will was probated. I saw the extract from her will at the Huntingdon County Historical Society. IRWIN, MARY (no township given), wife of James Irwin, deceased, late of Frankstown Township. Will dated June 11, 1822; probated 4 Jun 1823. Names granddaughter Elenor Irwin, daughter of Robert Irwin; son Robert; son James. Executor: son Robert Irwin. Witnesses; Ephraim Galbraith, joseph Patton. Page 47. Letter of administration granted to Robert Irwin on the estate of Mary irwin, deceased, 4 Jun 1823. Page 47. I have seen and photographed the headstone. A Crawford family descendent chart looks like Holly(probably Molly), but its handwritten, so......... I got this from the Blair County Genealogical Society Crawford family book. I have the zerox. Another ordinance record has her birthplace as Bradford, PA. They have her father as Henry A. CARSON and Elizabeth RICKLES.
I also have a marriage date of 4 Mar 1810. Resided in Irwin Homestead, Frankstown Township, Blair County, PA. I have seen and photographed the headstone. Buried with Ellenor, Elizabeth and afallen headstone. They were not listed in the Cemetery headstones, but they arethere. I have a note that he spent his life in Scotch Valley, Blair, PA. Scotch Valley is just out of Hollidaysburg, very near Frankstown. Chester and Frankstown are not close
Of Antes Township, Huntingdon County, PA. Owned tract of land in Frankstownship. Will extract in Huntingdon County Historical Society. Horace had the will probated on 8/2/1824. Huntingdon Will book Vol III, pg 117. I put in the approximate date of birth.
There is a Jane Irwin in the Presbyterian Cemetery at Hollidaysburg, who died in1821. That's all of the information I have on her. The Presbyterian Cemetery book has a Jane interred 2 Apr 1915??? I put in the date of birth for temple ready.
Mentioned in her father's will as deceased. I put the date in, I approximated for temple ready. One Wrold Tree had her married to George Mahood.
He married Mary Carson Abt 1775 at Blair, Pennsylvania . Mary Carson was born at Chester, Pennsylvania Abt 1750 daughter of Robert Carson and Rachel .
