John ROBESON
Thomas was only 1 year old when his family located to Van Buren township in Darke County, OH. He was 11 when they moved to a farm near Jaysville, where he grew to manhood. His education began in an old log school house. His early advantageswere limited, as he was reared in a region then wild and sparsely settled. He assisted his father (John) in clearing and improving the farm and experienced many hardships and privations incident to pioneer life. While a boy, Thomas broke his arm which prevented him from entering the service during the Civil War. He served one term as constable of Van Buren Township and was a staunch supporter of the Democratic Party. He was an ernest member of the United Brethern Church and was a trustee of the same.
