Andrew ROBESON
All of his children were born at Shoomac Park. He was a wealthy man, having inherited the lion's share of his father's estate. He carried on the mill and was spoken of as a "miller". A grave marker over what may be his grave states: "ANDREW ROBESON Justice of thePeace, Philadelphia County. Robeson Township named for him. Husband of Magdalena, daughter of the Swedish Provost Andreas Rudman." Relative or Proxy was Emma Evelyn Stovall Monk. IGI said he was of Greenwich Township, Glouchester, N.J.
Survived her husband many years. Inscription on the marble slab under the floor of the Gloria Dei Church states; "Here rests the remains of MAGDALEN ROBESON, Eldest daughter of the late Revd Mr. Andrew Rudman Commissary to the Swedish Mission, Born 24th Feb 1699, Married to Mr. Andrew Robeson A.D. 1718, and after his death A.D. 1740, continued the remainder of her life A widow indeed. Died 25th Feb 1769, aged 70 years. Blessed are the Dead who sleep in the Lord." I have her birthyear as either 1698/99. I also have a death date of 1774, although her grave says otherwise.
Not married.
Apparently no children. Second wife of William. She was very active in the church. A communion service, which she presented to the church was stillin use in 1916, and bore this inscription: "The Gift of Mrs. Vanderspiegle to the Swedish Lutheran Church at Wicaco, Anno Domini 1773." Her tombstone is beneath the floor atGloria Dei Church. "In memory of Elizabeth Vanderspiegle, widow of William Vanderspiegle, late of Philadelphia, Merchant, daughter of the late Andrew and Magdalen RObeson, and granddaughter of the later Rev. Andrew Rudman. died February 23rd, 1774, aged 52 years.
He purchased all of the interest of his sister Elizabeth. He left by will a tract of this land to the Reverend Wm. M. Smith (first provost of the University of PA), during life, then to revert to Rudman's cousin Edward Robeson. He was a carpenter, and seems not to have carried on the mill. He was not married. He was apart owner of the privateer "Britannia". He was also interested in the militia, and was Captain in the militia at the time of his death. will Name: Peter RobesonDescription: Uncle Date: 23 Dec 1762Prove Date: 21 Feb 1763BookPage: M:474 Remarks: Rudman Robeson.
