ID: I0259 Name: Johannes Leipp\Leib Sex: M Birth: 5 Aug 1696 in Reihen (Baden) Germany Death: 1 Jan 1754 in Manchester, York, Pennsylvania Fact 1: 18 Sep 1737 Ship "William and Sarah" Note: The Immigrant ancestor of this family, arrived in the New World at the Port of Philadelphia on September 18, 1727 on the ship, "William and Sarah" Also with him were three other family members, it is also believed that his father was on the same ship. Johannes parents were Hans Rudolph Leippe and Margaretha Muller. Johannes was baptised Aug 5 1696 in Reihen Germany and he died in either 1754 or 1756 in Manchester Township, York Co. Pennsylvania. The sourse of much of the information has been church records at the Reihen Church-Evangelical Pfarrant Reichen, 6920 Sinsheim, Reihen, Kirchstrasse 7. On Sept 18 1727 the William and Sarah arrived in Philadelphia with a colony of about 300Swiss-German immigrants. William Hill was the ship's commander. This colony wasof the Lugheran Reformed Faith. German reforms had begun coming to america in the late 1600's. Following the Thirty-Years was, much of Germany lay in ruins. Inthe early l700's the severe persecution of the Protestants by the Roman Catholic church caused the German reformed protestants to look for the New World and freedom from poverty and persecution. The ships records indicate the immigrants sailed from Rotterdam. Johannes Godfryt Leyb is listed on the ship log as the headof a family of four. Only the name of the head is listed. Possibly his father is listed erronously as Rudolff Beyl as this name appears elsewhere translated asRudolff Leyb. Also on the same ship were families of Philip Rudisill (Rodesell.Herzels (Hertzel) and Hans Siegler/Ziegler, all of whom intermarried with the Leipp family. The immigrants were taken to the courthouse in Philadelphis. each had to prove he was not a convict and pledge allegience to the Crown of England..It appears that Leib changed to Lipe after the family moved to North Carolina. They apparently remained in York Co. Pa for the duration of their lives. On June 12 1756, Johannes leib familyfiled a request to administer his estate as he apparently died without a will. Margaret, his widow, and Jonas, his eldest son, were appointed by the Orphans Court of York Co to administer the estate. Nothing further was done until Aug 30, 1763 when Jonas petitioned the court to either divide or sell the tract of land owned by his father in Manchester Township York Co. This petition spellw out all of John/Johannes children, Jonas,Esther, intermarried with Philip Ziegler, Catherine marrie to Sebastian Wigle. Godfried, and Barbara intermarried with Jacob Ament.
