A memorial will be held Saturday for Robeson H. Allport, a retired Boeing engineer and former principal oboeist with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. Allport died Thursday at his Seattle home. He was 72.
Mr. Allport played for several years as an oboist with the SSO, part of that time as principal oboist. Deciding on a career change in the late 1950s, he went back to the UW for a year, earning a bachelor's degree in mathematics, and taught for a few years in local private schools before going to work for Boeing as an mechanical engineer. He retired in 1978.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Allport, former assistant principal cellist with the SSO; a sister, Matilda Moeller, of Honokaa, Hawaii; four stepchildren, Thomas R. King, of Renton; Audrey Wilson, a cellist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra; Patricia K. Iacovino, of Norwalk, Conn.; and David F. King, of Lummi Island, and seven stepgrandchildr
The memorial gathering will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday in the social hall of University Unitarian Church, 6556 35th Ave.
