Robeson Peters of Cambridge, a World War II veteran, history teacher and son of former Boston mayor and congressman Andrew J. Peters, died Oct. 4 at his home. He was 86.
Born in Boston, Mr. Peters had lived in Cambridge for many years. He attended St. Paul's School in Concord, N.H., and Harvard University. He received a master'sdegree from Columbia University. His master's thesis was about the Boston police strike of 1919, which had occurred during his father's administration.
During World War II, he served as a lieutenant in the Navy.
Mr. Peters taught history at both St. Paul's School and later at Brooks School in North Andover.
After his retirement, he pursued his passion for yachting.
Mr. Peters is survived by his brother, David M. of Cambridge; three nephews, John Cuetara, James Cuetara and Daniel Cuetara; and a niece, Mittie Cuetara.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. today at St. James Episcopal Church, Cambridge.
Private burial will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery, Jamaica Plain.

David McClure Peters died Aug. 21, 2008, at the Chilton House in Cambridge. He was 87.
Mr. Peters was born in Boston and was a longtime resident of Cambridge. He graduated from Avon Old Farms School and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1951.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and worked as a forest ranger and in health care. He was an active member of St. James' Episcopal Church in Cambridge, and a supporter of many environmental and
Native American causes.
He was the son of former Boston Mayor Andrew J. Peters, who defeated Mayor JamesM. Curley in 1917 and held the office for one term, having previously served asa state representative and senator, U.S. congressman and assistant secretary ofthe Treasury under former President Woodrow Wilson. He was also a direct descendent of Mayflower passenger Stephen Hopkins and John Phillips, the first mayor of Boston. He was the nephew of William Phillips, who served as the U.S. ambassador to Italy under President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
He leaves his wife, Nancy (Ristine) Cuetara; three sons, John, James and Daniel Cuetara; a daughter, Mittie; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at St. James' Episcopal Church in Cambridge. Arrangements were made by the Brown and Hickey Funeral Home in Belmont.
