                   He was an officer in the English army, but was stationed in Ireland. The Farmar and Penn families were neighbors and close friends. Embarked for America Aug.1685, in the ship "Bristoll Merchant" John Stephenson Com. He brought his family, 13 servants and their families to America, but he and his son Jasper both died onthe voyage. The family arrived on 10 Nov 1685.
the Farmar(Farmer) family were of England, and "were accounted of greater socialdistinction than the family of 'Penn'" "having had an ancestor among those Norman invaders of England who had reached knighthood in 1586, baronetcy in 1641, and peerage in 1692. The "Farmer" Crest is a lion's headerased gu., the motto,"Fortis et Fidelis" (Strong and Faithful.)Lady Julianna Farmer married Thomas Penn.                    Of Whitemarsh, Philadelphia County, PA. Gentleman. Came from Ireland. Arrived onthe Ship "Bristol Merchant" on 10 Nov 1685, with his recently widowed mother and his brothers and sisters. His talents reportedly included a knowledge of the French language. He was a Justice of Philadelphia County Court of Quarter Sessions and was present on 4 Jun 1695. He was commissioned a Justice of the Peace for Philadelphia County on 2 Sep 1702 and held office through 1738. He was elected to the Provincial Assembly in 1710 and served 11 terms through 1731. His will dated 18 Jul 1745 and proved 19 Nov 1745, appoints friend Jonathan Robeson as one of the executors. Recorded in Will Book H, 71 #43. Reportedly he was only able tomake a mark at the conclusion of his will, probably as he was "sick and weak". He reportedly died testate. His gravestone was inscribed:"In memory of Edward Farmar, Esq. whi departed this life the 3d day of November 1745, aged 73 years.
