Ansel McCall LAMPORT
Purchased a tract of land adjoining his father's farm, and here he began housekeeping immediately after his marriage. In 1836 he moved to Laporte County, IN, and settled on Dove Prairie, subsequently locating at Kingsbury. In 1843, he movedwith his daughter to Mishawaka, St. Joseph, IN, where he worked for the St.Joseph Iron Company starting on 11 Apr 1844. In the spring of 1846, he purchased a farm, 6 miles SE of town. He lived there until 1865, during which time his 6 younger children were born there. In 1865, he crossed the St. Joseph River, where he purchased a farm 3 miles E oftown. He sold it 2 years later and after a few months residence in the village of Mishawaka, purchased a small fruit farm at Burton Harbor, Berrien, MI. He moved his family there in 1868, and cultivated fruit until his death. He is buried in the village cemetery in Mishawaka. During the last 19 years of his life, he was a local preacher in the Methodist Episcopal Church. He was a just and faithful man, always highly honored by the people that knew him.
A soldier in the Civil War. When about 20 years old, he entered the employ of the Lake Shore + Michigan RR Company and that became his life's work. FOr 12 years(1880 - 1892) he was superintendent of the Cincinnati Wabash and Michigan Railway, with residence at Wabash, IN. He was then in the General Superintendent's office of the Lake Shore Road at Cleveland, OH.
Served in the Civil War. Entered the Ministry of the Methodist Episcopal Church.He rose to prominence in his conference (North IN), and after having served in various churches in Anderson, Richmond, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, and Munice, hetransferred to Pasadena,CA in 1900. He had one of the largest churches on the Pacific Coast at the time. He was recognized as one of the ablest preacher of hisdenomination, and was in great demand as a lecturer and preacher.
Went to Iowa and began life as a farmer. Married in Iowa, and soon after went toSlayton, Murray, MINN, where he secured a farm and lived until his death, He had no children.
Lived in Hully, MI for awhile, then moved to Traverse City, MI.
When little went to live with her sister Rosa, where she grew up. After her marriage, she lived in Wabash, IN. She was a women prominent in the church and social life of the city.
Grew to manhood in Benton Harbor, MI. Did editorial work at the local newspaper for 2 years, and then entered the Ministry of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and joined the Michigan conference. He served various churches in the Western partof the state and was in Leslie for a long while.
