On 18 MAY 1811, William was appointed guardian (with Jeremiah McLane) of
Samuel, William's brother. He resided near White River, Montgomery Co., IN,
then moved to Memphis, Shelby Co., TN, where he died. His estate was settled in

    William, with his brother David, inherited from their father part of a track
of land known as "Duff's Fork of Deer Creek" in 1807. William was a witness to
Rebecca Davis' will 14 DEC 1816, and John Wilson Jr', will 26 SEP 1818. During

17, 1905 (Sunday), James Dungan Stockton, a native of Ohio, aged 86 years, 3
months and 18 days. Funeral today at 3 o'clock p.m. from the family residence,
80 North Crittenden St., Interment Oak Hill Cemetery."
    "San Jose Daily Mercury - Tuesday Morning (19th Sept 1905) "ANOTHER PIONEER
PASSES AWAY- James Dungan Stockton Dies Sunday at the Age of 86 years.  Crossed
plains in 1859 with party - Was cousin of the Commodore. By the death of James
Dungan Stockton Sunday morning San Jose lost another of the sturdy pioneers who
laid the foundations of city and State. Mr. Stockton was 86 years of age and
had been failing for several years. Within the last three months his decline in
health was marked.
     Mr. Stockton was born in Chillicothe, Cook county, Ohio May 29, 1819. In
1859 he came across the plains with a party of pioneers. The trying journey
across the continent occupied a period of more than six months duration. Mr.
Stockton setttled in Los Angeles, but not being satisfied with that country
removed soon afterward to San Jose, and he had since made this city his home.
During his realy residence in this county he entered into business, but for
many years prior to his death he had been in retirement.
     The funeral was held at the family residence. No. 80 North Crittenden street
at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev.
L.S.Jones, pastor of the South M.E. Church. Interment was at Oak Hill.
     Mr. Stockton was a cousin of Commodore Stockton. (not true) He is survived
    by a widow, three daughters, 2 sons, 6 grandchildren and 5 gt grandchildren."

PASSES AWAY- James Dungan Stockton Dies Sunday at the Age of 86 years.  Crossed
plains in 1859 with party - Was cousin of the Commodore. By the death of James
Dungan Stockton Sunday morning San Jose lost another of the sturdy pioneers who
laid the foundations of city and State. Mr. Stockton was 86 years of age and
had been failing for several years. Within the last three months his decline in
health was marked.
     Mr. Stockton was born in Chillicothe, Cook county, Ohio May 29, 1819. In
1859 he came across the plains with a party of pioneers. The trying journey
across the continent occupied a period of more than six months duration. Mr.
Stockton setttled in Los Angeles, but not being satisfied with that country
removed soon afterward to San Jose, and he had since made this city his home.
During his realy residence in this county he entered into business, but for
many years prior to his death he had been in retirement.
     The funeral was held at the family residence. No. 80 North Crittenden street
at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev.
L.S.Jones, pastor of the South M.E. Church. Interment was at Oak Hill.
     Mr. Stockton was a cousin of Commodore Stockton. (not true) He is survived
    by a widow, three daughters, 2 sons, 6 grandchildren and 5 gt grandchildren."

He married Anne Rebecca Dungan 29 Dec 1807 at Chillicothe, Ross, Ohio . Anne Rebecca Dungan was born at of Washington, Pennsylvania Abt 1789 daughter of James Dungan and Mary Brooks .

They were the parents of 5 children:
